About
I am an Integrative Therapist which means that various techniques may be incorporated into a therapeutic session depending on what best suits the client's needs. I have studied humanistic, psychodynamic, and cognitive behavioural techniques.
My counselling career began with Social Science Foundation Studies followed by a Batchelor of Science Psychology degree (accredited by the British Psychological Society, BPS). I then went on to work in various mental health placements at hospitals and day centres, after which I spent some time working as a counsellor/trainer for the long-term unemployed. In addition to this I studied for formal qualifications in counselling theory and practice and psychotherapy techniques, gaining Post a Graduate Diploma in Counselling & Psychotherapy. I have continued to inform my practice with related update courses and skills workshops.
I recently spent some time working in a General Practitioners' referral centre as well as counselling private clients. This has given me experience in both short-term and longer term counselling.
My counselling experience covers a variety of difficulties: loss and bereavement, stress, anxiety, phobias, self-esteem, relationship difficulties (both personal and work related), redundancy, depression, loss of motivation, sexuality issues, lack of confidence from family or childhood experiences, loss of home, and general life and lifestyle difficulties.
In addition to my psychology experience my initial background was in film and advertising. I have an interest in various visual and performing arts. I have some experience studying and working in presentation skills, make-up, grooming and style. My interests have included dance, drama, singing and photography.
I consider expression through the arts can be an added aid to finding more self understanding and fulfillment (if a client chooses to explore these issues).
I am a registered counsellor with the British Association for Performing Arts Medicine (BAPAM) as well as being a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
